The Achuar people have been living in the heart of the Amazon rainforest for thousands of years. 86 Achuar communities currently reside along the Pastaza River basin in Ecuador. The Achuar way of life is based on living in harmony with their lush and sometimes harsh environment.

Their respect for the rainforest and deep understanding of its ecosystem are woven into the fabric of their day-to-day activities as well as their rich spiritual life. Under the guidance of local shamans, the Achuar communicate with Arutam, the spirit of the forest, through dreams, visions, and rituals.

Their ceremonies and practices fortify the strong sense of community that permeates their culture.
